  1. Find a level place to set up your front end.
  2. Attach the gauge to the spindle.
  3. Rotate the gauge until the small vial at the end of the gauge shows level.
  4. Read the CAMBER directly on one of the two vials on either side of the gauge.

Do you adjust caster or camber first?

With front-end alignments, correct caster and camber adjustments first. Certain FWD vehicles do not offer caster adjustments, but correcting the camber may bring the caster within specs.

How do you set a caster with a bubble gauge?

Turn the knurled knob on the top of the gauge until the bubble in the center vial reads zero. Turn the wheels 20° past straight in the opposite direction (40° total sweep in). Rotate the gauge so the bubble in the small vial closest to you is centered. Read the caster angle on the center vial.

How do you measure caster angle at home?

Turn the steering wheel right until the wheel is turned 20 degrees right of straight ahead (turning 40 degrees total). Hold the gauge at a 90-degree angle and the reading will be your caster angle for the left wheel.

What is caster and camber?

Camber is the angle or tilt of the tire viewed from the front or rear of the vehicle. Positive camber results in tire wear on the outside tread of the tire. A vehicle will pull to the side with the most positive camber. Caster is viewed from the side of the vehicle.

Does camber affect caster?

Caster angle affects the camber of the wheel during steering. If a car is set up with positive caster, the outside wheel will gain negative camber during cornering.
