What is RefSYS?
What is RefSYS?
Aspen RefSYS is a multi-unit simulation and optimization modeling application that helps refiners improve operational decision making and achieve a more accurate view of the overall potential for refinery profitability.
What is petroleum assay in Hysys?
Aspen HYSYS® Crude characterizes the hydrocarbon fluid by determining the hypothetical components that make up the oil and predicts their thermophysical and transport petroleum properties. The generated crude assay information and components can be used in the Aspen HYSYS process simulation model.
What are petroleum assays?
A crude oil assay is the chemical evaluation of crude oil feedstocks by petroleum testing laboratories. Each crude oil type has unique molecular and chemical characteristics. Information obtained from the petroleum assay is used for detailed refinery engineering and client marketing purposes.
Is Saudi oil light or heavy?
Crude grades
Crude | API | Source |
---|---|---|
Amna | 37.0 | Libya |
ANS | 31.4 | US |
Arab Extra Light | 40.0 | Saudi Arabia |
Arab Heavy | 28.0 | Saudi Arabia |
What is a good API gravity?
Generally speaking, oil with an API gravity between 40 and 45° commands the highest prices. Above 45°, the molecular chains become shorter and less valuable to refineries.
What is specific gravity of crude oil?
Specific gravities for common fluids like acetone, alcohol, turpentine, oil and more.
Product | Temperature oC | Specific Gravity SG 1) |
---|---|---|
Crude oil 32.6o API | 15.6 | 0.862 |
Crude oil 32.6o API | 54.4 | 0.84 |
Crude oil Salt creek | 15.6 54.4 | 0.843 0.82 |
Decane-n | 20 | 0.73 |
Is Saudi oil sweet or sour?
Sour crude is produced largely in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, the Canadian province of Alberta, the Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, Saudi Arabia and other parts of the Middle East.
Is higher API oil better?
Higher API indicates a lighter (lower density) crude. Lower API indicates a heavier (more dense) crude. Generally, lighter (high API) crudes are more valuable because they yield more high-value light products when run through a refinery. Anything below 15 API would be considered an extra-heavy crude.
What are some heavy oils?
Heavy oil
- Coal tar creosote, a wood preservative and waterproofing agent.
- Diesel fuel.
- Fuel oil that contains residual oil left over from petroleum distillation.
- Heavy crude oil, viscous crude oil.
